Cardiac Services
Accredited Chest Pain Center
Palms West Hospital is dedicated to providing our patients with the best heart care treatment available. As an Accredited Chest Pain Center we ensure that patients who come to the hospital complaining of chest pain or discomfort are given the immediate treatment necessary to avoid as much heart damage as possible.
Protocol-based procedures developed by leading experts in cardiac care to reduce time to treatment in the critical early stages of a heart attack are part of Palms West Hospitals overall cardiac care service.
People tend to wait when they think they might be having a heart attack, and thats a mistake. The average patient arrives in the Emergency Department more than two hours after the onset of symptoms, but what they dont know is that the sooner a heart attack is treated, the less damage to the heart and the better the outcome.
The Cardiac Services at Palms West Hospital brings together the collaborative efforts and experience of highly skilled physician specialists, nurses, technologists and other cardiovascular health professionals. Our cardiac services encompass a full range of diagnostic modalities and interventional procedures. Our team of specialists combines their expertise and knowledge to provide the latest scientific advances in their respective fields.
Emergency Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)
Palms West Hospital can receive and treat patients in an emergency, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with narrowed coronary arteries using angioplasty, stenting and other catheter-based procedures.
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) encompasses a variety of procedures used to treat patients with diseased arteries of the heart, for example, chest pain caused by a build-up of fats, cholesterol, and other substances from the blood (referred to as plaque) that can reduce blood flow to a near trickle, or a heart attack caused by a large blood clot that completely blocks the artery.
Cardiac Catherization
Cardiac catheterization is a medical sub-specialty dedicated to using minimally invasive techniques with imaging guidance. A heart catheterization, or cath exam, is a special diagnostic x-ray imaging exam that allows your physician to see if any of the coronary arteries have blockages or evaluate patients heart valves functionality.
Our lab is equipped with the latest medical technology and available 24-hours a day for emergency services. We are now able to conduct minimally invasive procedures on these new systems to treat a wide range of clinical problems including coronary artery disease a leading cause of heart disorders in the U.S. These catheter-based procedures may reduce the risks and recovery time found in traditional surgical approaches. The benefits of catheter-based interventions include shorter hospital stays, reduced recovery time without the pain of a large incision, and less visible surgical scarring. These procedures can be performed on both the heart and peripheral blood vessels.
